Brooke interviews Dr. Peter Li, an associate professor at University of Houston, researcher on China’s animal welfare policies and the China Policy Specialist for Humane Society International. In this interview, Dr. Li shares a lot of information about the history and politics surrounding China’s wet markets and wildlife markets. He also clears up misconceptions about how they operate and how they fit into modern day Chinese culture. Brooke and Dr. Li also discussed the conditions that the animals in these markets are living in and how easy it is for zoonotic diseases such as COVID-19 to be spread.
